  • Archaeology as Service

    Open Access•Herr, Sarah A Herr et al.•ARTICLE•Advances in Archaeological Practice•2023•Cited by: 4

This article provides an introduction to the theme issue “Archaeology of Service.” We explore how performing service in archaeology articulates with the concepts and practices of community-based archaeology, collaborative archaeology, and the Archaeologies of the Heart projects and their larger purposes of approaching work through a lens of social and environmental justice. • Archéologie de la maisonnée de la fin de la préhistoire dans l’Est de l’état de New York

    Open Access•Christina Rieth, Christina B Rieth•ARTICLE•Palethnologie•2016

  • Late prehistoric household archaeology in eastern New York

    Open Access•Christina Rieth, Christina B Rieth•ARTICLE•Palethnologie•2016

Archaeological studies of households provide us with information about the interactions between past populations, the ways that they organized their settlements and the relationship of disparate segments of a community to each other. By examining the effects of households at several different scales, archaeologists can better understand the processes that underlie human behavior. This paper examines the Late Prehistoric Getman site in New York an…

    Open Access•Christina Rieth, Christina B Rieth•ARTICLE•North American Archaeologist•2012•References: 3

Archaeological excavations at the Schoharie Creek II site in Schoharie County, New York were conducted by the New York State Museum's Cultural Resource Survey Program as part of a federally funded bridge replacement project. Stratified deposits produced artifacts dating to the Middle Woodland Period (circa A.D. 100-A.D. 900). The data derived during this excavation provide insights into the settlement and land use practices of these prehistoric p…

  • A Trace Element Analysis of Ceramics from the Pethick Site, Schoharie County, New York

    Open Access•Christina Rieth, Christina B Rieth et al.•ARTICLE•North American Archaeologist•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 11

A trace element analysis of ceramics and clay samples from the Schoharie Valley, New York State, is presented. This analysis focuses on a multi-component site, and a sample of comparative sites within the valley. Trace element analysis was conducted using energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence. Results indicate that: 1) most vessels are made from local clays; 2) there is a geographic relationship between trace element signatures of ceramic assembla…

A trace element analysis of chert samples from the Schoharie Valley, New York State, is presented. This analysis focuses on the multi-component Pethick site and a sample of comparative sites within the state. Trace element analysis was conducted using energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence. Results indicate that: 1) most tools are made from local chert sources; 2) there is the potential for the presence of non-local cherts within the valley, with i…
