New Kind of Weapon Head in Western Sahara
A new kind of prehistoric tool is described. It appears rarely in Spanish and French publications concerning the northern desert zone of Africa, nowadays Mauritania and Western Sahara, but the knapping technique and intended purpose of this specialized tool were not studied at that time. The Idki point is probably a weapon head
Note on Some Quartzite Bladelets of Assa (Southern Morocco)
Some very small artefacts discovered in the area of Assa (Southern Morocco) are described in this note. The bladelets that constitute this series are typical of the type and shape of the Epipalaeolithic of the Maghrib. However, the raw material used (quartzite) did not allow the knapper to obtain sharp tips or cutting edges. The intended purpose of these objects is therefore enigmatic. This may be the first time that such an industry, knapped fro…
Note on an Aterian Flint Projectile Head
The artefact is a flint flake with a tang, an object that is common in the Aterian Culture (Middle Palaeolithic of the and the Sahara, 40,000 to 20,000 BP). It was discovered during an archaeological survey by Mr. Letan, in the coastal region of Morocco, between Tarfaya and Tan-Tan (south Atlantic Coast). The artefact was lying on the ground in a zone of cliff screes, with no other object of the kind around. The archaeological prospections, which…
