Pillows, mattresses or log coffin linings
The preservation of organic remains is fickle, dependent on often highly localised conditions, but this incomplete record provides key insights into the lives, and deaths, of individuals in the past. Around 2010-2012, a hoard dating from around 1025-1030 was discovered ‘west of Poznań’, perhaps near Grodzisk Wielkopolski. It contained silver coins and ornaments, probably wrapped in cloth and hidden in a pot. This is secondary information from intermediaries who obtained information about the hoard (which consisted of several hundred coins) from various sources. At least 152 specimens were recorded. Miejsce, na którym zlokalizowane jest stanowisko, od dłuższego czasu ulegało zniszczeniu na skutek niekontrolowanego wybierania piasku na potrzeby okolicznych mieszkańców. In the course of many seasons of research, as many as 192 fragments of textile products were recovered from 51 graves at the necropolis in Świbie, Gliwice District. Today they form the most numerous and diverse group of prehistoric textile objects from Poland. Textile production during the Hallstatt period was an integral part of everyday life of societies living in Poland. However, discoveries of fabrics are very rare. Textile remains from this period survived primarily in the skeletal bi-ritual graves in the Silesia voivodship.
