Banking concentration and its determinants at the regional level during the Spanish developmentalism
In 1962, Spain implemented significant banking law changes to boost competition. This study investigates their impact on provincial banking concentration from 1964 to 1975, utilising novel provincial-level private bank balance sheet data and including savings banks. Results show a substantial decline in concentration across most provinces. Panel data models identify the determinants of banking concentration: larger populations and higher gross do…
Adsorption of Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics from Water and Wastewater by Colemanite
Pharmaceutical residues in water and wastewater have become a worldwide problem with environmental and public health consequences. Antibiotics are of special importance because of the emergence of antibiotic-resistant genes. This study evaluates the adsorptive removal of four common fluoroquinolone antibiotics by using natural colemanite as an alternative adsorbent for the first time. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted for the mixture of…
Hair Sample Analysis as a Method of Monitoring Exposure to Bisphenol A in Dogs
Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic substance widely used in the plastics industry. It penetrates food and environment and, as an endocrine disruptor, has detrimental effects on human organisms. Pet animals, which live in the immediate vicinity of humans, are also exposed to BPA; however, knowledge regarding the exposure of dogs to this substance is extremely scarce. This is the first study in which hair analysis has been used to biomonitor BPA in 30…
