    Open Access•Harun Rasid, Wolfgang Haider et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Geographies /…•2000•Cited by: 3•References: 29

A discrete choice experiment (DCE) was used as a part of a post‐flood survey among the residents of four small urban communities on the Red River ‐ Emerson, Morris, Ste. The respondents were asked to choose repeatedly among three hypothetical evacuation policies described in terms of (a) the type of evacuation (mandatory, voluntary, no evacuation), (b) notifi…

  • Structural vs Non-structural Flood-alleviation Measures in the Yangtze Delta

The results of a pilot questionnaire survey among 239 respondents from four sample villages of two typical floodplains of the delta indicated that, contrary to expectations, the non…

  • Flood Damage to Rice Crop in Bangladesh

    Open Access•Bimal Kanti Paul, Harun Rasid•ARTICLE•Geographical Review•1993•Cited by: 8•References: 3

EVERY year, almost one-third of Bangladesh is flooded. However, because of topographical characteristics, the regions of the country experience varied degrees of flooding; some parts may be under deep floodwater, others unaffected. Flooding is beneficial only within certain limits of timing, duration, and magnitude (Paul 1984; Rasid and Paul 1987). A normal flood, known as borsha in Bangladesh, generally is associated with monsoon rains that occu…
