  • Gendered Time, Seasonality, and Nutrition

    Open Access•Nitya Rao, S Raju et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Economics•2019•Cited by: 11•References: 10

Some of the key pathways linking agriculture and nutrition run through women’s work, yet the evidence on these links are weak. Using time-use data from two Indian districts, this paper seeks to fill this gap. In principle, women’s agricultural work could have positive and negative implications for nutrition, through increased control over incomes or intensifying work burdens. Open Access•Prue Atkins, P J Atkins et al.•ARTICLE•Espace populations sociétés•1997

  • Where Angels Fear to Tread? Mapping Women and Men in India

    Open Access•Naresh Kumar, Raju et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1997•Cited by: 1•References: 8

The authors have produced the Atlas of Women and Men in India, using material from the 1991 Census, mainly at district level. The Atlas may be unacceptable to Indian geographers because it seeks to question the authority of numerical data and of maps, and to Western geographers because this is "mapping before we understand the process". The authors introduce maps of the sex ratio in India and explore through a map of changes in the sex ratio 1981…

  • The Issues at Stake

    Open Access•Raju, S Raju•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1997•References: 9

This paper covers several key issues relating to women and gender in post-1947 India. A detailed discussion on the construction of 'women' by colonial and anticolonial forces prior to Independence helps place the post-Independence period in context. Because the issues are complex and intertwined, it is argued that in the Indian context the definition of conventional feminism needs to be substantially enlarged to incorporate the vast canvass cover…
