    Eva H DuGoff, Emily Walden et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2018•Referências: 18

BACKGROUND: Claims-based algorithms based on administrative claims data are frequently used to identify an individual's primary care physician (PCP). The validity of these algorithms in the US Medicare population has not been assessed. OBJECTIVE: To determine the agreement of the PCP identified by claims algorithms with the PCP of record in electronic health record data. DATA: Electronic health record and Medicare claims data from older adults wi…

  • The Effect of an Intervention to Break the Gender Bias Habit for Faculty at One Institution

Molly Carnes, Patricia G Devine et al.•ARTICLE•Academic Medicine•2014

PURPOSE: Despite sincere commitment to egalitarian, meritocratic principles, subtle gender bias persists, constraining women's opportunities for academic advancement. The authors implemented a pair-matched, single-blind, cluster randomized, controlled study of a gender-bias-habit-changing intervention at a large public university. METHOD: Participants were faculty in 92 departments or divisions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Between Sept…

  • Impact of County Disadvantage on Behavior Problems Among US Children With Cognitive Delay

Erika R Cheng, Hyojun Park et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2014•Citada por: 1•Referências: 28

Objectives. We investigated relationships among cognitive delay, community factors, and behavior problems over 2 years in early childhood with a national sample of US families. Methods. Data were from 3 waves of the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Birth Cohort (2001–2005; n = 7650). We defined cognitive delay as the lowest 10% of mental scores from the Bayley Short Form–Research Edition, administered at 9 and 24 months. At 24 months, we class…

  • Health Literacy and Urbanicity Among Cancer Patients

    Open Access•Julie Halverson, Ana P Martinez-Donate et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Rural Health•2013

PURPOSE: Low health literacy is associated with inadequate health care utilization and poor health outcomes, particularly among elderly persons. There is a dearth of research exploring the relationship between health literacy and place of residence (urbanicity). This study examined the association between urbanicity and health literacy, as well as factors related to low health literacy, among cancer patients. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was…

The authors examined factors associated with nutritional resilience/vulnerability among preschoolers in the Gaza Strip in 2007, where political violence and deprivation are widespread. This cross-sectional study was carried out in 2007 using random sampling of kindergartens in order to select 350 preschoolers. Binary logistic regression was used to compare resilient (adequate nutrition) and vulnerable (stunted) groups with those with moderate nut…

  • Racial disparities in health-related quality of life in a cohort of very-low-birth-weight 2- and 3-year-olds with and without asthma

Beth M Mcmanus, Stéphanie Robert et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2012•Citada por: 3•Referências: 23

BACKGROUND: Children born very low birth weight (VLBW) are at risk for low health-related quality of life (HRQoL), compared with normal-birth-weight peers, and racial disparities may compound the difference. Asthma is the most pervasive health problem among VLBW children and is also more common among black than white children, partly due to unfavourable environmental exposures. This study explores racial disparities in HRQoL among VLBW children a…

Dasha Cherepanov, Monica Palta et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2011•Referências: 27

PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to examine whether gender differences in summary health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are due to differences in specific dimensions of health, and whether they are explained by sociodemographic and socioeconomic (SES) variation. METHODS: The National Health Measurement Study collected cross-sectional data on a national sample of 3648 black and white noninstitutionalized adults ages 35 to 89 years. Data incl…

Dasha Cherepanov, Monica Palta et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2010•Referências: 24

BACKGROUND: Preference-weighted health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) indexes produce a summary score from discrete health states determined by questions falling into several attributes, such as pain and mobility. Values of HRQoL are used alongside other health outcomes to monitor the health of populations. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to examine among US adults, the underlying factor structure of HRQoL attribute scores across 5 inde…

Open Access•Claudia Cristina De Aguiar Pereira, Monica Palta et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Brasileira de Estudos de…•2010

Race differences in health have been extensively analyzed and documented in the literature, especially between African Americans or blacks and whites in the United States. Despite the vast literature in the area, the majority of studies that explore the relationship between race and health use outcomes such as self-rated health, mortality or morbidity, and disability, but very few use Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) measures and their doma…

Monica Palta, Mari Palta et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Epidemiology•1982

Screening data from the Hypertension Detection and Follow-up Program in Minneapolis, MN, 1973-1974, provided an opportunity to evaluate the accuracy of self-report of height and weight. It was found that both were reported, on the average, with small but systematic errors. Large errors were found in certain population subgroups. Also, men and women differed somewhat in their pattern of misreporting. Weight was understated by 1.6% by men and 3.1% …
