  • Impact of nighttime sleep duration and daytime nap combinations on cardiovascular disease risk in middle-aged and older Chinese adults: A nationwide prospective cohort study

Open Access•Wenxiao Xiong, Wanxin Li et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2026

Adequate nighttime sleep is associated with lower CVD risk. Most combinations of insufficient nighttime sleep and daytime nap increased CVD risk among middle-aged and older adults. However, the combination of insufficient nighttime sleep with moderate napping was not associated with increased CVD risk in this population. These results provide a scientific foundation for targeted sleep interventions and clinical guidance

  • Spatial assessment of settlement consolidation potential: Insights from Zhejiang Province, China

Open Access•Qiushi Zhou, Wenze Yue et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2025

Global food security is increasingly threatened by cropland loss and rising food demand, necessitating policy interventions such as settlement consolidation. However, scaling up local consolidation practices requires large-scale assessments of consolidation potential to effectively coordinate interventions for localized implementation. Here, we evaluate settlement consolidation potential across rural land systems in Zhejiang Province, by leveragi…

  • The optimal course and frequency of Tai Chi for knee osteoarthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

  • Determining or Mediating Media? Model Comparisons on the Role of Media and Risk in Shaping Preventive Behaviors During Crises

Open Access•Yi-Hui Christine Huang, Ruoheng Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Journalism & Mass Communication…•2025

This study investigates the role of media in risk communication during crises by comparing two theoretical perspectives. The first paradigm views media as a determining factor, while the second sees media as a mediator. The study analyzes two survey data sets: cross-sectional data on nuclear waste issues from eight regions (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom; N = 8,591) and …

  • Trust subdimensions as mediators between crisis response and satisfaction: A cross-regional study of the Fukushima nuclear wastewater crisis

Yi-Hui Christine Huang, Haodong Liu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Conflict…•2025

Purpose This study aims to examine how crisis response content and form influence relational satisfaction, with trust – categorized as ability-based and benevolence-based – serving as a mediator. Design/methodology/approach Using demographically representative survey data from 3,515 respondents across Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the authors used structural equation modeling to examine the mediating effects of trust and distinct roles of…

  • Life expectancy inequalities between regions of China 2004–2020: Contribution of age- and cause-specific mortality

Open Access•Leyi Zhang, Lijuan Sun•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background: China's rapid economic and social development since the early 2000s has caused significant shifts in its epidemiological transition, potentially leading to health disparities across regions. Objectives: This study employs Life Expectancy (LE) to assess health disparities and trends among China's eastern, central, and western regions. It also examines the pace of LE gains relative to empirical trends and investigates age and causes of …
