  • Geology and stratigraphy of the Southern Main Ethiopian Rift (East African Rift System)

Open Access•Štěpán Dvořák, Kryštof Verner et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2026

A new geological map of the northern sector of the Southern Main Ethiopian Rift is presented, providing unique insights into the processes driving continental rifting (ca. 45 Ma to the present). The map includes a cross-section through the rift valley and records multiple phases of rift evolution. This region, shaped by ongoing extension between the Nubian and Somalian lithospheric plates, preserves a tectonomagmatic history typical of active con…

  • Geology, U-Pb dating and 3D visualisation of late-orogenic Klenov Pluton (Pelhřimov Core Complex, Central European Variscides)

Open Access•Jaroslava Pertoldová, Kryštof Verner et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

The geological map of the Klenov Pluton (Moldanubian Batholith), and its 3D visualization, brings the new findings in the context of granite emplacement within late-Variscan settings. The Klenov Pluton has a peraluminous composition resulting from partial melting of metasedimentary sources and subsequent differentiation. The new ages 327.14 ± 0.21 Ma and 327.80 ± 0.37 Ma, reflect the narrow time-span of magma emplacement and cooling. The 327 Ma K…

  • Metabasite Artefacts from the Neolithic Settlement at Brno-Holásky/Tuřany Compared to the Potential Source Rocks within the Želešice Metabasite Body Based on Petrography and Mineralogy

    Open Access•Kristýna Trnová, Petr Gadas et al.•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinaria Archaeologica…•2024•References: 2

The Želešice metabasite body served as a significant area for the exploitation of raw material for the production of polished stone tools in the Neolithic. This study is based on petrographical and mineralogical comparisons of the artefacts from the Želešice-type metabasite collected in the Neolithic settlement (and workshop) at Brno-Holásky/Tuřany with the various rock types occurring around the Želešice metabasite body. The determination of the…

  • Geology of the Gobi and Mongol Altai junction enhanced by gravity analysis

Open Access•Pavel Hanžl, Alison Guy et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

The geological map L-47-V at a scale 1:500,000 covers part of Mongolian Altaids with ophiolite fragments in southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt in SW Mongolia. This region has a basin and range topography with Neoproterozoic and Palaeozoic units exposed at NW–SE trending ranges rising along major intracontinental faults and with intermontane basins filled by Mesozoic and Cenozoic sediments in between. The map shows clear N–S tectonic zonation fe…

  • Geology of the Gobi Altai and Tseel terranes in the central part of the Sagsai River Watershed, SE Mongolian Altai

Open Access•Pavel Hanžl, Zuzana Krejčí et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2017

A geological map is an indispensable tool for understanding the structure of the Earth’s crust but high-quality geological maps are usually lacking in remote areas of mountainous Central Asia covered by vast deserts. The progress in remote sensing and geographical information system (GIS), as well as the advancement in analytical methods, have generated new challenges in producing modern geological maps in such regions. The presented 1:50,000 geo…
