  • Evaluation of a public awareness campaign for dementia risk reduction in the Netherlands

Open Access•Dominique Paauw, Irene Heger et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

While the multi-regional campaign did not lead to a general increase in population-level awareness of dementia risk reduction, it modestly improved knowledge of specific dementia risk and protective factors

  • Year Individual Physical Activity Patterns and Related Characteristics

    Open Access•Anne Loyen, G C Wanda Wendel-Vos et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Almost half of the participants changed their physical activity behaviour over 20 years. Baseline age, level of education, smoking, alcohol consumption, adherence to dietary guidelines, weight status and perceived health were associated with different physical activity patterns

  • Associations of self-reported physical activity and anxiety symptoms and status among 7,874 Irish adults across harmonised datasets

Open Access•Cillian P Mc Dowell, Angela Carlin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

Meeting physical activity guidelines is associated with lower odds of anxiety, but the strength of associations did not increase considerably with increased physical activity levels

  • Prevalence and correlates of domain-specific sedentary time of adults in the Netherlands

Open Access•Anne Loyen, Josephine Chau et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

This study reports high levels of total non-occupational sitting time of Dutch adults. The large proportion of sedentary leisure activities might indicate the potential of strategies aiming to reduce leisure sedentary time. The difference in correlates across sedentary behaviour domains demonstrates the importance of targeting these domains differently in interventions and policies

  • The Dynamic Work study

    Open Access•Judith G M Jelsma, Lidewij R Renaud et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

    ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03115645 ; Registered 13 April 2017. Retrospectively registered

  • Data on Determinants Are Needed to Curb the Sedentary Epidemic in Europe. Lessons Learnt from the Dedipac European Knowledge Hub

Open Access•Marieke De Craemer, Sébastien Chastin et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Societal and technological changes have resulted in sitting being the dominant posture during most activities of daily living, such as learning, working, travelling and leisure time. Too much time spent in seated activities, referred to as sedentary behaviour, is a novel concern for public health as it is one of the key lifestyle causes of poor health. The European DEDIPAC (Determinants of Diet and Physical Activity) Knowledge Hub coordinated the…

  • Associations of self-reported physical activity and depression in 10,000 Irish adults across harmonised datasets

Open Access•Cillian P Mc Dowell, Angela Carlin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

Depression is a prevalent, debilitating, and often recurrent mood disorder for which successful first-line treatments remains limited. The purpose of this study was to investigate the cross-sectional associations between self-reported physical activity (PA) and depressive symptoms and status among Irish adults, using two existing datasets, The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) and The Mitchelstown Cohort Study. The two selected databases…

  • Differential influences of population densification and economic growth on Europeans' physical activity and sitting time

Open Access•Jelle Van Cauwenberg, Anne Loyen et al.•ARTICLE•Cities•2018•Cited by: 3•References: 46
