Do agricultural services lead to more environmentally-friendly pesticide use? Evidence from Jiangsu Province in China
Integrating Memetics and Gamified Virtual Reality for the Digital Preservation of Cultural Heritage
This pilot study combines memetic analysis with a gamified virtual reality (VR) platform to explore the digital transmission of Mo Jia Quan, a traditional Chinese martial art. By identifying core cultural elements (memes) with strong transmissibility, the research developed a VR-based learning environment incorporating levels, challenges, and motion-captured martial routines to promote user engagement. Ten participants underwent a pre- and post-t…
Land investment regulation and allocative efficiency
This article analyzes the role of production factor land in the production process. Using a novel dataset of 20,205 newly established firms in the Chinese manufacturing sector from 2007 to 2014, our production function estimates suggest the existence of a sizable gap (averaging 50 USD/m2) between the marginal productivity of land and its user cost. Basic economic theory suggests a possible relationship with China’s minimum investment intensity (M…

Effectiveness of Extrinsic Incentives for Promoting Rural Waste Sorting in Developing Countries
Rural areas in many developing countries lack an effective waste management system, leading to poor environmental hygiene. As an initial but integral step toward sustainable waste management, fostering better household compliance with waste‐sorting regulation has become an important policy agenda. This paper devotes attention to evaluating the effectiveness of extrinsic incentives, more specifically, reward–penalty schemes, on promoting rural hou…
Does the democratization level of village governance affect perceptions of security and integrity of land rights? -An analysis from the perspective of social network abundance
An economic-psychological perspective on perceived land tenure security
Land tenure security perceived by farmers is generally considered an important precondition for rural development. In this paper, we first propose a holistic framework of land tenure security that integrates Van Gelder’s tripartite view of tenure security with Ho’s credibility thesis. Following this framework, we empirically investigate the interrelation between the cognitive and the affective components of tenure security perceptions, and analyz…
Causes of industrial land-use regulations in China
Do Social Networks Affect Irrigation Behaviors? A Case Study of Water Theft in Rural Xinjiang, China
Water theft (WT) jeopardizes equitable water-use rights and potentially threatens the effectiveness and sustainability of irrigation water management. This paper examines whether irrigation-member network size, kinship network size and connections with linking networks affect WT probability and frequency in the local reality characterized by strict water quantity management and weak formal sanctions but conditionally strong informal sanctions. Ou…
