Waters of the United States: Upgrading wetland valuation via benefit transfer
Floodplain designation and property sale prices in an urban watershed
Enforcing the rules in timber concessions: Performance bonding in the presence of corruption risk
Institutional heterogeneity in social dilemma games: A Bayesian examination
A main research focus in many Social Dilemma Games is the suitability of external institutional treatments in inducing socially optimal outcomes. It is likely that participating subjects exhibit unobserved heterogeneity in their reaction to these treatments. This type of “institutional heterogeneity” has to date not found much attention in the experimental literature. We propose a Hierarchical Bayesian estimation framework to highlight these hete…
Valuing ancient forest ecosystems: An analysis of backcountry hiking in Jasper National Park
Choice Behavior Under Time-Variant Quality: State Dependence Versus “Play-It-by-Ear” in Selecting Ski Resorts
In past studies of consumer loyalty changes in brand attributes over time were generally unobservable and treated as additional model parameters. In this study we consider ski resorts, for which observable quality attributes change frequently. Using a repeated-purchase model with observed time-variant brand attributes, indicators for state dependence, and individual heterogeneity, we show that purchase history and time-variant site characteristic…
A Censored Random Coefficients Model for Pooled Survey Data With Application to the Estimation of Power Outage Costs
In many surveys, multiple observations on the dependent variable are collected from a given respondent. The resulting pooled data set is likely to be censored and to exhibit cross-sectional heterogeneity. We propose a model that addresses both issues by allowing regression coefficients to vary randomly across respondents and by using the Geweke-Hajivassiliou-Keane simulator and Halton sequences to estimate high-order probabilities. We show how th…
