  • The impact of long-term land leases on farm investment

    Open Access•Tracy Bradfield, Robert N Butler et al.•ARTICLE•Land Use Policy•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 33

The European Union milk quota abolition in 2015 resulted in rapid dairy farm expansion across many Member States. Continued production growth requires both capital and herd investment with secure access to land resources being important for new and expanding farmers. As land sales and rental remain low in Ireland, tax incentives to encourage long-term land rental were increased in 2015. This paper assesses the influence of the length of land leas…

  • Nowcasting in Microsimulation Models

    Open Access•Cathal O’donoghue, Jason Loughrey•ARTICLE•Journal of Artificial Societies…•2014

In this paper, we survey the use of nowcasting methods in Microsimulation models. These nowcasting methods differ in a number of respects to the more established methods of forecasting. The main distinction is that while forecasting extrapolates from current data to estimate the future, the methods of nowcasting extrapolate from data of the recent past to reflect the present situation. In this paper, we undertake a survey of a number of modelling…

  • How regressive are indirect taxes? A microsimulation analysis for five European countries

Open Access•André Decoster, Jason Loughrey et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Policy Analysis and…•2010•Cited by: 11•References: 2

Shifting the tax burden from labor to consumption is proposed in many developed countries as a way to make the tax system more incentive compatible. This article deals with the simulation of such a policy change to sharpen the distributional picture. Expenditures are imputed into the EUROMOD microsimulation program. Then social security contributions are lowered and the standard VAT rate is increased to maintain government revenue neutrality. The…
