In search of a pattern for historic centres reconstruction
The study presents the results from an analysis of the various forms of the post-war reconstruction of several of the largest historical city centres in the Recovered Territories which were joined to Poland after the Second World War. We propose an original mixed qualitative and quantitative method for studying the built-up areas over the period covering the war and up to the present. Enhancing rural communes safety in Poland
Forecasting land use and land cover change as a tool for optimising adaptation to climate change
Second-tier cities are an important element in the socio-economic development of each country, including V4 countries. The result is a dynamic change in land use/cover patterns. The article analyses the possibility of using Markov chains to predict changes in land use. The results show that it is possible to use the Markov chains method in proper decision-making in land-use policy, which is combined with the stimulation of sustainable land use. T…
Urban green spaces in land-use policy – types of data, sources of data and staff – the case of Poland
Urban green spaces are a key element of land-use policy. This paper aims to analyse what kind of green spaces, formal and informal, are covered by documents that specify the spatial development policies used by urban policymakers and what types of data are used to develop land-use policies in towns and cities. The background of this analysis is the fundamental staff analysis in the departments of land-use planning. This article presents a quantit…
The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in Rural Land-use Planning in Poland
The most important document in spatial planning in Poland is the local plan. The article considers the possibility of using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method to select the location of local plans in cooperation with experts. The results of the study show that the use of the AHP method makes decisions made by local authorities credible. The paper demonstrates the utility of the tool for deciding where local plans should be developed. The…
The use of geoinformation in rural and urban-rural gminas of Zgierz poviat – a pilot survey
The use of geoinformation becomes more and more common due to the implementation of EU law to the regulations of individual member states. The opportunity of faster implementation of spatial information systems and geoinformation is possible thanks to the popularisation of knowledge concerning the ways of using spatial information. The pilot survey was conducted in rural and urban-rural gminas of Zgierz poviat (administrative unit of the 2 nd ord…
