  • Early Late Pleistocene core-and-flake technocomplex in the Lower Yangzi region, China

    Open Access•Zhe Dong, Jian-Ping Yue et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2026

The Miaodongyingdongnan lithic assemblage, dated to c . 70–100 ka, features a core-and-flake technocomplex that incorporates both simple and planned technologies. Distinct from the Early and Middle Pleistocene assemblages in the Lower Yangzi region, it signals a technological shift toward small-flake debitage and retouch systems during the Late Pleistocene.

  • Exploitation Strategies for Vitric Tuff in Northeast China During the Early Holocene

    Open Access•Yan Wang, You-Qian Li et al.•ARTICLE•Lithic Technology•2026

This paper systematically studies newly excavated materials from the Redianchang area of the Xiaonanshan site along the Ussuri River, revealing vitric tuff exploitation strategies and technologies during 9.2-8.6 ka BP. Our research shows microblade technology dominated the lithic industry of Redianchang area, with tool assemblages overwhelmingly of direct and vertical pressure microblades. Use-wear observations and related experiments demonstrate…

  • Lithic technological transition in MIS3 revealed by the lithic assemblages of Liujia Locality 2, Central China

Open Access•Zhe Dong, Sheng-Yan Guo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026

Liujia Locality 2, located at Central China, is a Paleolithic site with two cultural units. The luminescence dating results revealed that the lower unit ranges from MIS7 or 6 to MIS5, and the upper unit corresponds to MIS3. The lower cultural unit is characterized by heavy duty tools on large flakes of quartzite and quartz sandstone. In the upper cultural unit, rhyolitic tuff became the preferential raw material, and was used to produce small too…

  • An Intersectional Approach to Family Life

Open Access•Emma H Liu, Iris Po Yee Lo et al.•ARTICLE•Social Policy and Society•2024•References: 17

This article focuses on how the policy on same-sex marriage and a person’s social locations impact upon Chinese lesbians’ life chances and welfare. Bringing the familisation and defamilisation literature, which has predominantly focused on heterosexual populations and families, into dialogue with an intersectionality perspective, we map the ways in which gender, sexuality, and class intersect in shaping lesbians’ experiences of defamilisation and…

  • Technological diversity in the tropical-subtropical zone of Southwest China during the terminal Pleistocene

    Open Access•Fa-Xiang Huan, Shi-Xia Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2024•Cited by: 8•References: 61

  • Late Glacial lithic industry of the Xiaonanshan site

    Open Access•Jian-Ping Yue, You-Qian Li et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2024•References: 4

Xiaonanshan is an archaeological site dated to 16.5-13.5 cal kyr BP, situated beside the Ussuri River in China. The lithic assemblages feature microblade debitage, bifacial points and stone adzes, which provide important new materials for this project to explore Neolithisation in the Amur River basin of northeast Asia

  • Blade and microblade industry at Helong Dadong, north-east China, during Marine Isotope Stage 2

    Open Access•Ting Xu, Jian-Ping Yue et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2024•References: 27

Characterised by the extensive use of obsidian, a blade-based tool inventory and microblade technology, the late Upper Palaeolithic lithic assemblages of the Changbaishan Mountains are associated with the increasingly cold climatic conditions of Marine Isotope Stage 2, yet most remain poorly dated. Here, the authors present new radiocarbon dates associated with evolving blade and microblade toolkits at Helong Dadong, north-east China. At 27 300-2…

  • Lithic raw material economy at the Huayang site in Northeast China

    Open Access•Jian-Ping Yue, You-Qian Li et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2020•Cited by: 6•References: 43

The study of lithic raw material plays an important role in developing archeologists' understanding of the different adaptive strategies and behaviors of prehistoric people. In this paper, we present new evidence from the Huayang site that reveals lithic raw material procurement and exploitation strategies dating to around 14 ka cal. BP. The Huayang site is located in the southern portion of the Lesser Khingan Mountains in Northeast China, a key …
