Beyond the city limits
Australia’s regional, rural and remote (RRR) areas face persistent teacher shortages, presenting ongoing challenges for schools and education systems. Pre-service and newly graduated teachers represent a potential resource for addressing these shortages, yet many complete their initial teacher training without exposure to RRR schools. Framed by Bronfenbrenner and Morris’s Bioecological Theory of Human Development, this qualitative study explores …
Queering primary initial teacher education
This research was designed to raise awareness, access and understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, asexual/aromantic and others who sit outside of the heteronormative binary (LGBTIQA+), inclusion for pre-service educators studying in Bachelor of Education (Primary) and Master of Teaching (Primary) ITE courses in one Australian university. The project involved the production of three video resources intend…
The Effect of High-Intensity Accelerations and Decelerations on Match Outcome of an Elite English League Two Football Team
The frequency of high-intensity accelerations and decelerations has a significant impact on match performance outcomes in an elite English League Two football team. Consideration needs to be given to specific conditioning and recovery strategies to optimise high-intensity acceleration and deceleration performance in games. Caution should be taken as these findings are representative of one team within the EFL
Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ Issues in Primary Initial Teacher Education Programs
Existing research has explored inclusion in education, however, issues related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ young people, with some notable exceptions, have, until recently, seldom been included in any meaningful academic discussion. Issues of youth race, gender and sexuality have been interrogated as discrete issues. This small but growing body of research demonstrates the potential impacts of intersectional disadvantages exp…
Dual leadership in Chinese schools challenges executive principalships as best fit for 21st century educational development
IArchi[tech]ture
This paper critiques the journey of pedagogical change over three mobile learning (mlearning) project iterations (2009 to 2011) within the context of a Bachelor of Architecture degree. The three projects were supported by an intentional community of practice model involving a partnership of an educational researcher/technologist, course lecturers, and course students. The pedagogical changes achieved over three years of sustained collaborative pa…
Widening the mortgage safety-net
Despite benign economic conditions, home ownership continues to manifest risk in the form of mortgage arrears and possessions. Since 1995, the policy objective has been to transfer the major responsibility for protecting mortgage payments to the individual and the market. Limited take-up of mortgage payment protection insurance has led to a suggestion that a wider range of insurances and other resources now constitute the safety-net. The article …
Between a rock and a hard place’
The private rented sector in England presents a number of widely-acknowledged problems for the policy maker including relatively poor property conditions and sometimes low management standards. There are a number of intractable obstacles to dealing with these problems, including an inability to agree on how the sector should be regulated, extreme variation in letting arrangements, a lack of clarity on the relationship between regulation and suppl…
Studying a Niche Market
Renting privately is a minority tenure in the UK, but the sector is recognised as being essential to the smooth operation of the wider housing market. The need to target policy effectively has led to an increasing stress on the importance of understanding how local private rental markets operate. Using a number of local case study areas from throughout the country, this paper explores the nature of demand for private rented housing from students.…

Commonwealth/Telecom Sites
This paper is a brief discussion of artefact processing methods used during the excavation of the Commonwealth Centre/Telecom post-contact archaeological sites. It outlines the problems which were encountered in systematically cataloguing and analysing the large number of artefacts excavated within a short period of time. Some solutions are discussed below for the problems encountered during the artefact cataloguing and analysis on this project, …
