  • Dimensions of corruption in Pakistan

Open Access•Muhammad Aman Ullah, Cathy Urquhart et al.•ARTICLE•Systems Research and Behavioral…•2022

Over the past few decades, many studies of corruption have been carried out. These studies have mainly focused on specific aspects of corruption such as economic issues, legal issues, social propositions, national development and economic policy. This study builds a systems thinking model of corruption, which helps in the understanding of corruption and acts as an input into future policymaking on corruption. Data for the qualitative analysis com…

  • Job crafting for female contractors in a male‐dominated profession

Open Access•Niki Panteli, Cathy Urquhart•ARTICLE•New Technology Work and Employment•2022•References: 60

In this paper, we explore the job crafting experiences of women who left permanent employment for contracting positions in Information Technology (IT), a sector widely considered male‐dominated with limited career opportunities for women. This qualitative study is based on interviews with 24 female IT contractors. Findings show that through the flexibility and autonomy that come with contracting, numerous crafting practices are adopted by female …

  • Grounded Theory

    Open Access•Cathy Urquhart•CHAPTER•The International Encyclopedia of…•2016

This entry describes the basic aspects of grounded theory method (GTM) and covers four key points. First, the goal of GTM is to generate a theory. Often the coding procedures are leveraged independently by researchers for data analysis, not to generate a theory. Second, the use of GTM implies a noncommittal literature review, where the emerging theory determines the relevance of that literature review. There is an absolute obligation on the part …

  • Putting the ‘theory’ back into grounded theory

Open Access•Cathy Urquhart, Hans Lehmann et al.•ARTICLE•Information Systems Journal•2009

Over the past decade, there has been increasing interest in the use of grounded theory in information systems research. Grounded theory is a qualitative research method that seeks to develop theory that is grounded in data systematically gathered and analysed. The purpose of this paper is to suggest guidelines for grounded theory studies in information systems. Our guidelines are based on a framework for theorizing in grounded theory studies that…

  • Strategies for Conversation and Systems Analysis in Requirements Gathering

    Open Access•Cathy Urquhart•ARTICLE•Qualitative Report•2000•References: 4

This paper describes how strategies for conversation and systems analysis may operate in requirements gathering. The emergence of these concepts, whilst using grounded theory techniques to analyse a case study of analyst-client interaction is discussed. The topics of conversation in the case study are analysed and grouped into themes and examined with reference to strategies for conversation and systems analysis. Methodological issues that occur …
