  • Newborn survival in Pakistan

Open Access•Amanullah Khan, Mary Kinney et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2012•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 38

Pakistan has the world's third highest national number of newborn deaths (194 000 in 2010). Major national challenges over the past decade have affected health and development including several large humanitarian disasters, destabilizing political insurgency, high levels of poverty and an often hard-to-reach predominately rural population with diverse practices. As part of a multi-country analysis, we examined changes for newborn survival between…

  • Newborn survival in Bangladesh

Open Access•Sayed Rubayet, Mohammad Shahidullah et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2012•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 43

Remarkable progress over the last decade has put Bangladesh on track for Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4 for child survival and achieved a 40% decline in maternal mortality. However, since neonatal deaths make up 57% of under-five mortality in the country, increased scale up and equity in programmes for neonatal survival are critical to sustain progress. We examined change for newborn survival from 2000 to 2010 considering mortality, coverage…

  • Newborn survival in Nepal

Open Access•Y V Pradhan, Shyam Raj Upreti et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2012•Citada por: 13•Referencias: 32

Nepal is on target to meet the Millennium Development Goals for maternal and child health despite high levels of poverty, poor infrastructure, difficult terrain and recent conflict. Each year, nearly 35,000 Nepali children die before their fifth birthday, with almost two-thirds of these deaths occurring in the first month of life, the neonatal period. As part of a multi-country analysis, we examined changes for newborn survival between 2000 and 2…

  • Low-Income African-American Mothers’ Perception of Exposure to Racial Discrimination and Infant Birth Weight

James W Collins, Richard J David et al.•ARTICLE•Epidemiology•2000

We performed a hospital-based case-control study of African-American mothers to explore the relation between a mother's perception of exposure to racial discrimination during pregnancy and very low birth weight. We administered a structured questionnaire to low-income mothers of very low birth weight ( 2500 gm; N = 60) infants. The unadjusted and adjusted odds ratio of very low birth weight for maternal exposure to racial discrimination were 1.9 …
