  • "I Am Now Five Steps Ahead"

Hanna-Joy Renner, Naomi Wambui Makobu et al.•ARTICLE•Progress in community health…•2023

Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine how humancentered design (HCD) as a platform for co-production might function to explain community health volunteer (CHV) motivation in self-directed and self-funded community health activities. Sustaining engagement has been difficult for CHVs who lack monetary incentives, expense reimbursement, and are rarely given opportunity to give their own voice to local health priorities. Design: Qualitative…

  • Trust is the engine of change

    Open Access•Mary B Adam, Angela J Donelson•ARTICLE•Systems Research and Behavioral…•2022

We examine trust at the theory level as an engine driving sustainable change. We propose a new measurable dimension of the trust construct: reciprocity. Cooperative reciprocal relationships are its building blocks, enabling stakeholders to ‘try out’ interactions with less risk, calibrating level of effort, time and emotional investment before continuing further. Reciprocity includes three measurable elements: common goals furthering equitable and…

  • Implementation research and human-centred design

    Open Access•Mary B Adam, Joy Minyenya-Njuguna et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2020•References: 25

Human-centred design (HCD) can support complex health system interventions by navigating thorny implementation problems that often derail population health efforts. HCD is a pragmatic, ‘practice framework’, not an intervention protocol. It can build empathy by bringing patient voice, user perspective and innovation to construct and repair pieces of the intervention or health system. However, its emphasis on product development and process change …

  • Perspectives on U.S. ‐ Mexico border Colonias

Adrian Esparza, Adrian X Esparza et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Borderlands Studies•2009

The U.S.-Mexico borderlands have been the focus of research for many years, with themes and topics as varied and diverse as the border region itself. The Journal of Borderlands Studies has played a vital role in the dissemination of this research, and scholars and readers owe much to the journal's singular focus on borderlands studies across the globe. With this special volume, the JBS once again demonstrates its commitment to bringing forward cr…

  • Undocumented immigrants and quality of life in New Mexico and Arizona Colonias

Angela J Donelson, Angela Donelson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Borderlands Studies•2007•References: 6

Recent legislation aims to stop the northward flow of undocumented immigrants into the United States by creating amnesty and formal guest worker programs and by increasing the “deterrent effect” at the border. The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) contained similar policies, and subsequent research tells us much about what to expect from proposed “reforms.” However, virtually no research has considered how immigration reforms have pl…
