Chipped Stone Finds Along the Anatolian Black Sea Coast: Tekkeköy-A Shelter, Samsun, Turkey
The archaeological studies in the Black Sea Region of Turkey have long been neglected in comparison to other regions in the country. Despite increasing numbers of excavations and surveys regarding the post-prehistoric period, the prehistoric cultural heritage of the region is still not widely known in the archaeological world. Having said that, the Tekkeköy-A Shelter excavation conducted by İ.K.Kökten in the 1940s is one of the oldest archaeologi…

Networks and Neolithisation: Sourcing obsidian from Körtik Tepe (SE Anatolia)
Marginal Perspectives: Sourcing Epi-Palaeolithic to Chalcolithic Obsidian from the Öküzini Cave (SW Turkey)
Fifty-six pieces of obsidian from the Öküzini Cave in SW Anatolia were elementally characterised using particle induced X-ray emission [ PIXE], the artefacts coming from strata that span the early Epi-Palaeolithic to Late Chalcolithic. The obsidian comes from two sources in southern Cappadocia, East Göllü Dağ and Nenezi Dağ (380 km distant), representing the earliest evidence for these sources’ use at distance. The cave’s inhabitants perpetually …

Sedimentary Deposition Rates and Carbon-14: The Epi-paleolithic Sequence of Öküzini Cave (Southwest Turkey)
The Epi-Palaeolithic of Öküzini cave (SW Anatolia) and its mobiliary art
Late and Epi-Palaeolithic sequences are well known from field work and publications in southeast Europe and the Levant. Current research in Anatolia promises to shed new light on the vast region that connects these two areas. At Öküzini cave a detailed sequence of Terminal Pleistocene and Early Holocene assemblages contributes greatly to our understanding
