  • High-Tech in the Middle Palaeolithic

Open Access•Johann Koller, Ursula Baumer et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Archaeology•2001•Cited by: 137•References: 1

Any new knowledge that goes beyond the stone tools and techniques used in the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic is most significant as it reveals the cultural and technical capabilities of the people living in these periods. In 1963, two pitch finds were discovered in a lignite open-mining pit in the northern foothills of the Harz Mountains, in a layer the geological age of which was dated as being older than 80,000 years. The great significance of the…

  • The Bilzingsleben Archaeological Site

    Open Access•H P Schwarcz, Rainer Grün et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1988•Cited by: 14•References: 10

New absolute dates have been obtained for the Bilzingsleben (D.D.R.) archaeological site, using uranium‐series analyses of travertine, and electron spin resonance (ESR) analyses of travertine and tooth enamel of rhinoceros. The results indicate that the site was apparently occupied during interglacial isotope stages 9 or 11. The surrounding terrain has been subsequently dissected by at least three discrete stages of fluvial erosion during succeed…

  • Quartärpaläontologie Band 5

Kurt Diebel, Constantin C Flerow et al.•BOOK•Quartärpaläontologie. Band 5•1984

  • Freiberg Radiocarbon Measurements I

Open Access•Wolfgang Burkhardt, Hajo Stechemesser et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1970•References: 4

This list reports the first age determinations carried out by the Freiberg Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory. The preparation of samples and radiocarbon dates were done by the first two authors, who constructed the apparatus; sample descriptions and interpretations of dates were made by the third author
