  • Evaluating net life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions intensities from gas and coal at varying methane leakage rates

Open Access•Deborah Gordon, Frances Reuland et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

The net climate impact of gas and coal life-cycle emissions are highly dependent on methane leakage. Every molecule of methane leaked alters the climate advantage because methane warms the planet significantly more than CO 2 over its decade-long lifetime. We find that global gas systems that leak over 4.7% of their methane (when considering a 20-year timeframe) or 7.6% (when considering a 100 year timeframe) are on par with life-cycle coal emissi…

  • A gridded inventory of Canada’s anthropogenic methane emissions

    Open Access•Tia R Scarpelli, Daniel J Jacob et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

Canada’s anthropogenic methane emissions are reported annually to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change through Canada’s National Inventory Report (NIR). Evaluation of this policy-relevant inventory using observations of atmospheric methane requires prior information on the spatial distribution of emissions but that information is lacking in the NIR. Here we spatially allocate the NIR methane emissions for 2018 on a 0.1° × 0.1…

  • Energy access in Malawian healthcare facilities

Open Access•Frances Reuland, Nikki Behnke et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2020•References: 13

Many healthcare facilities (HCFs) in low-income countries experience unreliable connectivity to energy sources, which adversely impacts the quality of health service delivery and provision of adequate environmental health services. This assessment explores the status and consequences of energy access through interviews and surveys with administrators and healthcare workers from 44 HCFs (central hospitals, district hospitals, health centres and he…
