Salvaged Historic Timber Supports Local Timber Use in the 19th Century in the Transdanubian Range, Hungary
Despite the multidecadal tradition of dendroarchaeological research in Hungary, few case studies have reported dendrochronological results from historic rural buildings. To address this gap, this study presents the dendrochronological analysis of historic oak timber from four vernacular constructions in western Hungary. Oak was the dominant species, with a minor contribution (10%) of beech. Cross-dated ring-width series of the oak samples derived…
A somogybabodi középkori kút interdiszciplináris vizsgálata
A wooden structured medieval well was excavated \nin 2017 near Somogybabod. The dendochronological analyses of the oak elements is relative, according to the dating \nbetween archaeological sites the well was constructed around \nthe turn of the 14/15 C. The analyses of archaeobotanical samples collected from the mud layers brought important results. \nAccording to the crops, weed and other remains originating \nfrom natural environment the well …
Dendrochronology and Environmental History
The study provides insights into questions concerning forest management and timber use by drawing on case studies in the dendrochronological research which has been underway over the course of the past couple of decades in Hungary. The essay refers to natural resource-use and historical and demographic questions which arose in analyses of the wooden materials. The study questions some of the topoi of historical research, such as the immense fores…
Székkutas, Sós-Halmi-Dűlő Árpád-Kori Lelőhely Faanyagának Természettudományos Vizsgálata
A Székkutas-Sós-halmi dűlő lelőhelyen feltárt, leégett Árpád-kori lakóház maradványai között elszenesedett gerendák is voltak. A feltárás vezetője az ezekből vett minták vizsgálatát kérte laboratóriumunktól. A mintákon két vizsgálatot végeztünk: először sztereo-binokuláris mikroszkóp 18-szoros nagyítása mellett a xylotómiai elemzést, azaz fafajmeghatározást. Ezt követte a dendrokronológiai elemzés
