    In 1928 J. Charbonneaux studied the different utilisation of two kinds of rock, ammouda and sideropetra, in the architecture ofthe Palace of Malia. The present study, begun in 1979, shows that other types of rocks were used there, whose provenance was more or less close by, and that their employment was most often in answer to the precise requirements of the builders, both architecturally and aesthetically
