Challenging Encounters and Within-Physician Practice Variability
We examine how physician decisions are affected by difficult cases—encounters with newly diagnosed cancer patients. Using detailed administrative data, we compare primary care physicians’ decisions in visits that occurred before and after difficult cases and matched comparison cases by the same physicians on other dates. Personal and social patterns predict influenza vaccination decision
Our ability to make an excellent prediction of the patient's decision sets a major step toward personalized influenza vaccination campaigns, and will help shape the next generation of targeted vaccination efforts
An Empirical Investigation of “Physician Congestion” in U.S. University Hospitals
We add a new angle to the debate on whether greater healthcare spending is associated with better outcomes, by focusing on the link between the size of the physician workforce at the ward level and healthcare results. Using a sample of 150 U.S. university departmen…
The Epidemiologic, Microbiologic and Clinical Picture of Bacteremia among Febrile Infants and Young Children Managed as Outpatients at the Emergency Room, before and after Initiation of the Routine An…
We described the occult bacteremia (OB) and bacteremia with diagnosed focus (BwF) picture among children managed as outpatients at the pediatric emergency room (PER) in southern Israel, before and after the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) introduction in a retrospective study enrolling all three- to 36-month-old patients with fever >38.0 °C during 2005-2014. Of 511 (0.82% of all febrile patients) true bacteremias, 230 (45%)…
Seasonality in Birth Weight
Birth weight is the single most significant determinant of infant mortality and the chances of a newborn to experience healthy development. Low birth weight also appears to be related to higher risks of several important chronic conditions, such as ischemic heart disease, non-insulin-dependent diabetes, and cancer in adults. Thus factors that influence in utero growth and birth weight may have a serious effect on health outcomes many years later …
