The Continuing Importance of Political Ties in China
Our paper is a starting point for further discussions on the value of political ties in China, their evolutionary trajectory along the process of globalization, and their influence in explaining variability in differentiated performance metrics. We hope that our work will provide an impetus for additions and extensions that view convergence and divergence as two interrelated and mutually dependent constructs. Ignoring one or the other might gener…
Symmetry and the Illusion of Control as Bases for Cooperative Behavior
The existence of cooperation in the face of temptation to free ride requires explanation. We discuss two psychological phenomena, 'symmetry' and 'the illusion of control,' which we believe underlie the 'what if everyone acted that way' type of reasoning used in some types of cooperation. We provide a simple model of how these lead to cooperation. We also show how some bizarre causal beliefs, such as effect preceding cause, can follow from these p…
Yabba-Dabba-Doo! A Response to Unfair Accusations
There may be reasons to critique evolutionary psychology (EP) and particularly its application to the study of organizations. Those reasons might arguably include: (i) it hasn’t lived up to the enthusiasm of its proponents in producing concrete results; (ii) it smells of fadishness; (iii) it is so poorly defined that anything can be called EP; (iv) everything ‘true’ about it is trivial, everything non-trivial is probably not true. Although we wou…
