  • Qurta Rock Art: Cultural Exchange in the Mediterranean

    Open Access•Emmanuel Guy•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2025•References: 13

The discovery in the early 2000s of animal rock engravings near the village of Qurta in the Nile Valley (Upper Egypt) remains little discussed. This article focuses on the numerous stylistic links between these engravings and European Pleistocene figurations. These analogies allow us to date Qurta approximately to the end of the Last Glacial Maximum (between the end of Gravettian-Solutrean art and the beginning of Magdalenian art). This estimate …

Maria Stavrinaki: Julia, a theme that has structured your writing from the outset is that of ambivalence, but it seems to me that the status and the function of it have changed over the years. In your work on Art Workers (2011), you studied the practices of Lucy R. Lippard, Robert Morris, Carl Andre and Hans Haacke in the 1960s through the theme of their understanding and their discursive and material uses of "labor" and "value" in their artistic…

  • Ce que Sylvère Lotringer n'écrivait pas

    Emmanuel Guy•ARTICLE•Critique d’art•2022

    Open Access•Christophe Darmangeat, Emmanuel Guy•ARTICLE•Paléo•2021

    Open Access•Emmanuel Guy•ARTICLE•Paléo•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 11

  • From a Seafarer’s Career Management to the Management of Interwoven Sea- and Shore-Based Careers

Open Access•Marie-Noëlle Albert, Nadia Lazzari Dodeler et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2016

This study proposes a model of interwoven careers. This topic stems from interviews that showed that although future deck officers expect their future career at sea to last from 10 to 15 years and that the rest will be spent on shore, the maritime transport industry’s only goal is to attract and retain them as seagoing officers. This ambivalent situation leads us to develop a model of interwoven careers that is new. It takes into account both the…

  • Commercial shipping in the Arctic: New perspectives, challenges and regulations

    Open Access•Emmanuel Guy, Frédéric Lasserre•ARTICLE•Polar Record•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 13

Maritime traffic is increasing in Arctic seas in the context of climate change. The rapid melting of sea ice led to the widespread belief that traffic was set to expand rapidly, challenging Canadian and Russian-claimed sovereignties over their respective Arctic passage, and underlining the risk posed by such a traffic in a risky but fragile environment. If projections on potential traffic for the medium term are probably exaggerated, the increasi…

  • Representations and Policy Change: Evidence from the Canadian-Flag Shipping Industry

    Open Access•Emmanuel Guy•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•2013•References: 11

The paper explores change in shipping nexuses via the Canadian example. Two dimensions of this institutional framework are contrasted. On one hand, the industry segment of Canadian-flag vessels operate under a regime that reserves domestic trade to national carriers. On the other hand, more recent initiatives seek to develop long-term connectivity with international shipping networks through a trade corridor planning approach. Derived from new in…

Evidence for final Palaeolithic figurative depiction is at present subject to a debate : Is it a style with a particular originality or, on the contrary "decadent" continuation of Upper or Final Magdalenian art. We wish to throw on this debate a particular light which results from a detailed analysis of the representation modes in order to mesure the degree of relationship between the two figurative productions and thus to reveal their eventual c…
