Effects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Based Educational Intervention Addressing Fine Particulate Matter Exposure on the Mental Health of Elementary School Children
Objectives : This study assessed the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based fine dust education program, grounded in the Health Belief Model (HBM), on elementary students' fine dust knowledge, related behaviors, and mental health (depression, anxiety, stress, sleep quality). Methods : From September to November 2024, 95 students (grades 4-6) living near a coal-fired power plant in midwestern South Korea were assigned to eithe…
Political Stability and Economic Development
This study investigates the non‐linear effects of political stability on economic development and explores the moderating role of institutional factors. Drawing on panel data from 162 countries between 2007 and 2022, we employ a system generalised method of moments (system‐GMM) estimator to test the hypothesis that political stability follows an inverted U‐shaped relationship with economic growth. Our findings provide robust support for the insti…
The impact of materialism and moral identity on post-neutralization behavior in social media environmental campaigns
When consumers become aware of their inconsistent ethical behavior, they experience ethical dissonance and attempt to rationalize their past misconduct through neutralization techniques. This article examines post-neutralization behavior: whether neutralization prompts participants who have refused to donate to one campaign to rectify their moral lapse by donating to a subsequent campaign. Materialism and moral identity are shown to interact with…
Using Descriptive and Injunctive Norms to Encourage Covid-19 Social Distancing and Vaccinations
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the authors conduct three online studies to examine effects of health messages that use descriptive norms to bring attention to pervasive social distancing violations and vaccine resistance. The studies provide empirical evidence that when social messages show examples of widespread noncompliant behaviors, they may unintentionally increase resistance to social distancing guidelines and vaccinations. Backfi…
Prenatal Exposure to Traffic-Related Air Pollution and the DNA Methylation in Cord Blood Cells
Particulate matter with a diameter of ≤10 μm (PM 10 ) and nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) affect the DNA methylation in the fetus, but epigenetic studies regarding prenatal exposure to air pollution in Asia are lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to assess whether there is any association between the ambient concentrations of PM 10 and NO 2 and CpG methylation in the cord blood DNA by using a Korean birth cohort. The concentrations of the air pollutant…
Ethical dissonance in environmental advertising
The authors examine how consumers react to online prosocial advertising reminding them that they have violated ethical standards. Findings show that consumers feel ethical dissonance when recognizing that they have made uncivil online comments or have stood by while others did so. To alleviate the discomfort, they are likely to support a subsequent although unrelated environmental campaign. The effect is contingent upon whether the second message…
