  • Perceptions of Faculty Work Abroad

Open Access•Peter G Ghazarian, Andrew Tait et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Studies in International…•2024

Internationalization has become a priority at many higher education institutions. The larger presence of international students and faculty on campus has occurred at a time when societies around the world are increasingly racially, religiously, ethnically, and culturally diverse. Changing demands require flexibility and understanding among faculty members to alter instruction according to the diverse needs of their learners and open themselves to…

  • WMO Assessment of Weather and Climate Mortality Extremes

Open Access•Randall S Cerveny, Pierre Bessemoulin et al.•ARTICLE•Weather, Climate, and Society•2017

A World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Commission for Climatology international panel was convened to examine and assess the available evidence associated with five weather-related mortality extremes: 1) lightning (indirect), 2) lightning (direct), 3) tropical cyclones, 4) tornadoes, and 5) hail. After recommending for acceptance of only events after 1873 (the formation of the predecessor of the WMO), the committee evaluated and accepted the f…

  • Robust wavebuoys for the marginal ice zone

    Open Access•Martin J Doble, M Doble et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2017

An array of novel directional wavebuoys was designed and deployed into the Beaufort Sea ice cover in March 2014, as part of the Office of Naval Research Marginal Ice Zone experiment. The buoys were designed to drift with the ice throughout the year and monitor the expected breakup and retreat of the ice cover, forced by waves travelling into the ice from open water. Buoys were deployed from fast-and-light air-supported ice camps, based out of Sac…

  • Complexity and Knowledge Management Understanding the Role of Knowledge in the Management of Social Networks

Andrew Tait, Kurt A Richardson•BOOK•Complexity and knowledge management•2010

It seems as if attempts to use knowledge to understand and manage social networks are everywhere. Millions, if not billions, of dollars are being spent in an attempt to derail terrorist networks, with much of it being invested in making sense of massive data streams. There is growing concern that much of this money is being squandered on approaches that will never deliver on their promises. Our armed forces are being prepared to combat terrorist t…

  • The relationship between New Zealand's climate, energy, and the economy to 2025

Open Access•Adolf Stroombergen, Andrew Tait et al.•ARTICLE•Kōtuitui New Zealand Journal of…•2006

This study looks at the effect of current climate variability and projected future climate change to 2025 on New Zealand's energy industry (mainly electricity supply and demand) and at the wider economic implications of these effects. Electricity demand is modulated by climate largely through temperature, while electricity supply is modulated largely through rainfall and inflows to the major hydroelectricity‐generating lakes in the South Island. …
