Evaluation of a Community Covid-19 Vaccine Ambassador Train-the-Trainer Program
Racially minoritized groups are more likely to experience COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and have lower vaccination rates. As part of a multi-phase community-engaged project, we developed a train-the-trainer program in response to a needs assessment. "Community vaccine ambassadors" were trained to address COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. We evaluated the program's feasibility, acceptability, and impact on participant confidence for COVID-19 vaccination co…
Blood Lead Level Testing and Retesting Among Newly Arriving Refugee Children, Pennsylvania, 2015–2019
Objectives. To (1) determine the prevalence of elevated blood lead levels (EBLLs; ≥ 5 μg/dL) among newly arrived refugee children, (2) understand the demographic characteristics of refugee children with EBLLs, and (3) assess health care providers’ compliance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for retesting. Methods. We matched refugee demographic data (2015–2019) from the CDC’s Electronic Disease Notification (E…
A Comprehensive Evaluation of the Burden of Heat-Related Illness and Death within the Florida Population
The failure of the human body to thermoregulate can lead to severe outcomes (e.g., death) and lasting physiological damage. However, heat-related illness (HRI) is highly preventable via individual- and community-level modification. A thorough understanding of the burden is necessary for effective intervention. This paper describes the burden of severe HRI morbidity and mortality among residents of a humid subtropical climate. Work-related and non…
