  • Comment on the Article Archaeology, Language, and the Question of Sámi Ethnogenesis

Minerva Piha, Mikko K Heikkilä et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Archaeologica•2024

In this response to the article Archaeology, Language, and the Question of Sámi Ethnogenesis by Asgeir Svestad and Bjørnar Olsen (2023), we correct major misunderstandings made by Svestad and Olsen concerning the methodology of historical linguistics and its relation to archaeology. Our comment concerns the following topics: We explain that there cannot be one ethnogenesis that could be approached by different disciplines because different discip…

  • On locating Proto-Uralic

    Open Access•Jaakko Häkkinen•ARTICLE•Finnisch-Ugrische Forschungen•2023

In recent years the debate regarding the Proto-Uralic homeland has again intensified. However, not all the relevant arguments have been considered thoroughly. The article also develops further concepts and methodology for reconstruction of stages of Uralic, making it possible to compare Uralic stages to the Indo-Iranian loanword layers with higher resolution than before. A…

I name certain processes which have not (to my knowledge) previously been explicitly analyzed. I also argue that the taxonomic structure of a l…

  • Kantauralin ajoitus ja paikannus

    Open Access•Jaakko Häkkinen•ARTICLE•Suomalais-Ugrilaisen Seuran…•2009

Tämän tarkastelun tarkoituksena on ajoittaa ja paikantaa kantauralin puhuma-alue perinteisen historiallis-vertailevan kielentutkimuksen metodein. Mukaan on otettu kaikki mahdolliset kielelliset seikat, joilla olen ajatellut voivan olla merkitystä asian kannalta, poislukien ne, joita Petri Kallio on äskettäin käsitellyt aihepiiriltään vastaavassa tarkastelussa (Kallio 2006), jonka jatkoksi katson nyt käsillä olevan artikkelin. Ensimmäisessä luvuss…
