Feamainne (Seaweed) Sensory Biocultural Heritage in Ireland's Gaeltacht Archipelago
The significance and representation of seaweed in Éire (Ireland) is remediated through a complex historical and sensory discussion that situates seaweed as biocultural heritage. The deeply sensory stories of seaweed in Ireland foreground highly localized efforts to use seaweed‐ based traditions to support local practices that emerge from longstanding agro‐ecologies in the Islands of western Ireland, known as the Gaeltacht region. This discussion …
The Moderating Effect of Mental Health on the Relationship Between Cardiovascular Disease Awareness and Health Behaviors of Middle-Aged Korean Chinese Workers With Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Korea
Understanding relationships between CVD awareness, socioculturally mediated health behaviors, and mental health issues is critical to CVD prevention among participants; moreover, mental health should be specifically assessed and targeted for improvement
Applications of proxy system modeling in high resolution paleoclimatology
Regional tree growth and inferred summer climate in the Winnipeg River basin, Canada, since AD 1783
A network of 54 ring-width chronologies is used to estimate changes in summer climate within the Winnipeg River basin, Canada, since AD 1783. The basin drains parts of northwestern Ontario, northern Minnesota and southeastern Manitoba, and is a key area for hydroelectric power production. Most chronologies were developed from Pinus resinosa and P. strobus , with a limited number of Thuja occidentalis , Picea glauca and Pinus banksiana . The domin…
Persistent Solar Influence on North Atlantic Climate During the Holocene
Surface winds and surface ocean hydrography in the subpolar North Atlantic appear to have been influenced by variations in solar output through the entire Holocene. The evidence comes from a close correlation between inferred changes in production rates of the cosmogenic nuclides carbon-14 and beryllium-10 and centennial to millennial time scale changes in proxies of drift ice measured in deep-sea sediment cores. A solar forcing mechanism therefo…
