Teacher perspectives on linguistics in Tesol teacher education
This paper reports on a study of 61 students and alumni of graduate programmes that specialise in training English language teachers. The goal was to examine the views of these students and alumni regarding the importance and/or relevance of linguistic theory for their pedagogical practice and to determine whether differences in perceptions were dependent upon varying years of teaching experience. Expanding the Socio-Cultural Knowledge Base of Tesol Teacher Education
This paper argues for the expansion of the knowledge base of TESOL teacher education to integrate greater awareness of the sociocultural and political context of teaching English to speakers of other languages. This paper overviews the ways in which EFL learners' pragmatic awareness can be developed in language classrooms through focused instruction and practice.
