  • Publishing a Sanborn Map Service in 2025

    Laure Charleux•ARTICLE•GeoHumanities•2026

Sanborn map atlases, originally created for fire insurance assessments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, provide detailed insights into building characteristics and urban infrastructure. Despite their obsolescence as insurance tools by the 1950s, these maps have found new relevance in several academic fields, including urban planning and digital humanities, where they can support a variety of inquiries or community engagement. • True spatial k-anonymity

Laure Charleux, Katherine Schofield•ARTICLE•Cartography and Geographic…•2020•Cited by: 1

Spatial anonymization of address points is critical to fields such as public health. There have been recent concerns about applications of geomasks that did not guarantee the level of k-anonymity theoretically expected. An analysis of the problem and a potential solution were previously proposed: Adaptive Areal Elimination (AAE). The present paper expands on AAE and proposes a modified version, Adaptive Areal Masking (AAM). A benchmark comparison…

  • Contingencies of environmental justice

    Laure Charleux•ARTICLE•Urban Geography•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Low-emission zones (LEZs) are core urban areas where vehicles that are deemed especially polluting are prohibited, in the hope of reducing the population’s exposure to outdoor air pollution. LEZs have proliferated in Europe during the past decade. While an emerging body of literature considers LEZs’ impacts on pollution, studies thus far have not tackled LEZs’ impacts on mobility. This article uses household-travel survey data to assess how a pro…
