  • Towards deciphering the Cenozoic evolution of the East Pisco Basin (southern Peru)

    Open Access•C Di Celma, P P Pierantoni et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2022

The Cenozoic succession of the East Pisco Basin preserves the sedimentary record of several episodes of deformation of the forearc crust along the Peruvian margin. The 1:50,000 scale geological map presented here encompasses an area of about 1,000 km 2 lying astride the Ica River, and contributes to our understanding of the timing and mode of basin filling and deformation. Our novel two-fold megasequence framework provides a sound basis for estab…

  • Litho-sedimentological and morphodynamic characterization of the Pisa Province coastal area (northern Tuscany, Italy)

Open Access•Duccio Bertoni, Serena Giacomelli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

In this paper litho-sedimentological and morphodynamic maps of the coastal sector belonging to the Pisa Province are presented as an example of how increasing the accessibility to data on lithology, sedimentology, and morphodynamics may lead to a better approach to coastal management. The database used to build the maps includes an original rendering of remote sensing data (aerial imagery) and new field data (geologic survey), as well as data ret…

  • Morpho-sedimentological and vegetational characterization of Grande beach at São Francisco do Sul Island (Santa Catarina, Brazil)

Open Access•Fernanda Alquini, Duccio Bertoni et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2018

A multidisciplinary study based on several digital (geology, lithology, shoreline evolution, photo-interpretation of aerial and ortho-photographs) and field (topographic and vegetational surveys, grain-size analysis) datasets prompted new insights to a better definition of the processes in action at the Grande beach at São Francisco do Sul Island (Santa Catarina, Brazil). The resulting data enabled us to produce a multi-thematic map at 1:50,000 s…

  • Deciphering the effects of human activity on urban areas through morphostratigraphic analysis

Open Access•Monica Bini, Marta Pappalardo et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2017•Cited by: 6•References: 6

The type, thickness, and volume of anthropogenic deposits buried beneath long‐settled cities are good indicators of the human impact on urban environments and topography. Pisa is a multilayered city settled since Etruscan times in the lower Arno Plain. Stratigraphic and geomorphologic data from the urban subsurface show that Pisa today is located on a mound ( ca . 4 m high) made up dominantly of anthropogenic deposits. Two types of anthropogenic …
