  • Late Quaternary ice sheet history of northern Eurasia

Open Access•John Inge Svendsen, Helena Alexanderson et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Science Reviews•2004

  • Millennial to interannual climate variability in the Mediterranean during the Last Glacial Maximum

Open Access•Christina Chondrogianni, Daniel Ariztegui et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2004

  • Varve formation and the climatic record in an Alpine proglacial lake

    Open Access•Andreas Leemann, Frank Niessen•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1994•Cited by: 4

Processes leading to the formation of varves in proglacial Oeschinensee (Switzerland) are investigated. The aim is to calibrate annually-laminated sediments of the last three decades against hydrological and meteorological instrumental data. Results from water samples and sediment traps show that the suspended sediment in the lake is mainly distributed by underflows during the time of the largest sediment input from May to mid-August. This leads …

  • Holocene glacial activity and climatic variations in the Swiss Alps

    Open Access•Andreas Leemann, Frank Niessen•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1994•Cited by: 15•References: 7

Cores recovered from proglacial Lake Silvaplana (Swiss Alps) were investigated to examine the influence of Holocene glaciers on lacustrine sedimentation. During times of glacial activity in the catchment the sedimentation in the lake is dominated by the input of silt and clay-sized material delivered by glacial meltwaters. The deposition of fine-grained material and the formation of varves reflect the existence of glaciers in the catchment and ca…
