  • New developments in onshore paleoseismic methods, and their impact on Quaternary tectonic studies

Open Access•James P McCalpin, Maria Francesca Ferrario et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2023

  • Late Quaternary transpressional earthquakes on a long-lived intraplate fault

    Open Access•Youngbeom Cheon, Jin-Hyuck Choi et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2020

  • Shorelines in the Desert

    Open Access•Anjali Phukan, T J Braje et al.•ARTICLE•Advances in Archaeological Practice•2019•References: 6

In the desert of southeastern California, the geological and archaeological remnants of a once massive lake, Lake Cahuilla, are still visible. One of the most distinctive features marking Lake Cahuilla's relic shorelines is a series of rock fish trap features that, in some cases, stretch across thousands of square meters. These fish traps are severely understudied, and systematic archaeological survey can help scientists reconstruct the dynamic h…

  • Lateral slip rate of Alhama de Murcia fault (SE Iberian Peninsula) based on a morphotectonic analysis

Open Access•Marta Ferrater, María Ortuño et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2017

  • Calibrated, late Quaternary age indices using clast rubification and soil development on alluvial surfaces in Pilot Knob Valley, Mojave Desert, southeastern California

    Open Access•John G Helms, John Helms et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2003

The orange coating (varnish) that forms on the undersides (ventral sides) of clasts in desert pavements constitutes a potential relative-age indicator. Using Munsell color notation, we semiquantified the color of the orange, ventral varnish on the undersides of clasts from 15 different alluvial fan and terrace surfaces of various ages ranging from less than 500 to about 25,000 yr. All of the surfaces studied are located along the central portion …

  • Uranium-Series Ages of Marine Terrace Corals from the Pacific Coast of North America and Implications for Last-Interglacial Sea Level History

    Open Access•Daniel R Muhs, George L Kennedy et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1994

Few of the marine terraces along the Pacific coast of North America have been dated using uranium-series techniques. Ten terrace sequences from southern Oregon to southern Baja California Sur have yielded fossil corals in quantities suitable for U-series dating by alpha spectrometry. U-series-dated terraces representing the ∼80,000 yr sea-level high stand are identified in five areas (Bandon, Oregon; Point Arena, San Nicolas Island, and Point Lom…

  • Late quaternary uplift rates of marine terraces on the Pacific coast of North America, southern Oregon to Baja California sur

    Open Access•Daniel R Muhs, T Rockwell et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•1992

  • Dynamic Pedogenesis

    Open Access•Donald L Johnson, Edward A Keller et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1990

Inasmuch as soils are open systems and rarely, if ever, achieve equilibrium with their environments, it is philosophically sound to view all soils as expressing varying levels of polygenesis as that term has been redefined. Soil genesis and resultant morphology may then be viewed in a comprehensive framework of soil evolution that consists of two linked pathways, one developmental and the other regressive, that reflect interactions of both exogen…
