  • The tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the Fucino Basin (central Apennines, Italy)

Open Access•Gianmarco Mondati, Marco Spadi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2021

We present the geological map of the north-eastern margin of the Fucino Basin, which is mainly characterized by Plio-Quaternary continental deposits that show transition from deeper-water lacustrine environment, marginal lacustrine system, and fluvial facies. These deposits unconformably overlie upper Messinian Lago-Mare sediments and pre-orogenic carbonate succession. The occurrence of Caspiocypris tiberina in the Plio-Quaternary lacustrine sedi…

  • The Geochemical Fingerprint of Tufo Lionato Blocks from the Area Sacra di Largo Argentina

    Open Access•Fabrizio Marra, E D'Ambrosio et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 11

We use trace element discrimination diagrams to provide a geochemical fingerprint for Tufo Lionato, the volcanic rock most commonly used in the ancient Roman dimension stone technique. Based on the comparison of their geochemical signatures, we identify different rock facies of Tufo Lionato employed since the fourth to third centuries and through the second century bce in the construction of the temples of the Area Sacra di Largo Argentina. These…

  • Petrochemical Identification and Insights on Chronological Employment of the Volcanic Aggregates Used in Ancient R oman Mortars

    Open Access•Fabrizio Marra, E D'Ambrosio et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2016•Cited by: 7•References: 32

Through the assistance of trace element and petrographic analyses on 14 samples of mortar aggregates from R oman monuments, including the Porticus Aemilia , the T emple of Concordia, the T emple of the D ioscuri, T emple B and other structures of the Area Sacra di Largo A rgentina, and the Villa di Livia, we establish the source area and we investigate the chronological employment of the volcanic materials used in ancient R ome's masonry. In cont…

  • Pollen and macrofossil analyses of Pliocene lacustrine sediments (Salto river valley, Central Italy)

Open Access•Laura Sadori, Marco Giardini et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2010

  • An integrated stratigraphical approach to the Middle Pleistocene succession of the Sessano basin (Molise, Italy)

    Open Access•Elda Russo Ermolli, Pietro P C Aucelli et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2010

  • Tectonics, sea-level changes and palaeoenvironments in the early Pleistocene of Rome (Italy)

Open Access•Donald Cosentino, Domenico Cosentino et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2009

The historical site of the Monte Mario lower Pleistocene succession (Rome, Italy) is an important marker of the Pliocene/Pleistocene boundary. Recently, the Monte Mario site was excavated and restudied. A spectacular angular unconformity characterizes the contact between the Monte Vaticano and the Monte Mario formations, which marks the Pliocene/Pleistocene boundary. Biostratigraphical analyses carried out on ostracod, foraminifer, and calcareous…

  • GIS Methodology to Assess Landslide Susceptibility

Open Access•Gabriele Leoni, Fabrizio Barchiesi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2009

Please click here to download the map associated with this article. This paper illustrates a geographic information system (GIS) supported methodology for the assessment of landslide susceptibility. The methodology involves four operational steps: survey, site analysis, macroarea analysis and susceptibility analysis. The Survey includes the production (or acquisition) of a large-scale litho-technical map, a large-scale geomorphological map, a det…
