  • On the tracks of Pulvis Puteolana

Open Access•Martina Mercurio, Giovanna Montesano et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2026

Phlegraean pozzolana played an important role in the production of Roman hydraulic mortars, capable of enhancing mechanical strength even in contact with water. For this reason, this geomaterial was widely exported along the Mediterranean coasts (ROMACONS Project). Nowadays, the term pozzolana is strictly referred as the unconsolidated facies of the Neapolitan Yellow Tuff (NYT; ca. 15 ka), while the term pozzolan suits any fine-grained, mainly gl…

  • Unravelling 6000 years of interplay among environmental changes, anthropogenic activities, and Vesuvius eruptions in the upper Sarno Plain (Campania, Italy)

Open Access•Elda Russo Ermolli, Halinka Di Lorenzo et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2024

Pollen analysis was carried out on the infilling succession of the Fossa San Vito sinkhole, at the NE foothills of the Sarno Plain (Italy). Four 14 C dates and six tephra layers constrain the pollen sequence between ca. 6000 and 500 cal yr BP. A forested environment, with a few signs of human activities, characterizes the pre-protohistoric period (ca. 6000–2750 yr BP). Stability of the arboreal pollen grains to non-arboreal pollen grains (AP/NAP)…

  • Multiproxy approach to urban geology of the historical center of Naples, Italy

Open Access•Paola Petrosino, Anna Claudia Angrisani et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2021

  • A procedure for the resilience mapping in urban systems exposed to natural hazard

Open Access•Ines Alberico, Roberta Iavarone et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2020

  • The key role of hazard indices and hotspot in disaster risk management

Open Access•Federica Totaro, Ines Alberico et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

In the last years, metropolitan areas are more and more exposed to natural risks often intensified by the effects of climatic changes. Clear and complete information about hazards impending on the territory is indispensable for local authorities to define efficient territorial management strategies focused on the risk reduction. A flexible hazard tool which works at different scale and with several sources of hazard is here proposed. We drew maps…

  • Paleoenvironmental and climatostratigraphic insights for Marine Isotope Stage 19 (Pleistocene) at the Montalbano Jonico succession, South Italy

Open Access•Maria Marino, Adele Bertini et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2015

  • Territorial evolution and volcanic hazard, Ischia Island (Southern Italy)

    Open Access•Ines Alberico, Paola Petrosino•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2014

The Ischia Island, located in the north-western zone of Napoli bay (Southern Italy), is exposed to many natural events that represent sources of risk for both the tourists visiting the island all over the year and the local inhabitants. In this paper, we take advantage of spatial and temporal analysis available in a Geographic Information System framework in order to compare the spatial distribution of volcanic hazard zones to the temporal evolut…

  • An integrated stratigraphical approach to the Middle Pleistocene succession of the Sessano basin (Molise, Italy)

    Open Access•Elda Russo Ermolli, Pietro P C Aucelli et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2010
