  • The Interplay between Tectonic Activity, Climate and Sea-Level Change in the Suriname River Valley, Tropical South America

Open Access•Kathleen Gersie, Kathleen S Gersie et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2021

Suriname is part of the Guiana Shield, a cratonic area in northern South America. It is drained by several major rivers that are characterized by river terraces. The formation of terraces along the Suriname river is closely related to climatic changes during the Quaternary, due to the effects of climate on vegetation and precipitation changes. The terraces along the Suriname River valley show levels of 5, 15, and 20 m above the current mean water…

  • Reconstructions of deltaic environments from Holocene palynological records in the Volga delta, northern Caspian Sea

    Open Access•Katharine Richards, Keith Richards et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Cited by: 1•References: 10

New palynological and ostracod data are presented from the Holocene Volga delta, obtained from short cores and surface samples collected in the Damchik region, near Astrakhan, Russian Federation in the northern Caspian Sea. Four phases of delta deposition are recognized and constrained by accelerated mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon ages. Palynological records show that erosive channels, dunes (Baer hills) and inter-dune lakes were present dur…
