  • Dental morphology and ancient human dispersals within and out of Africa

Open Access•Joel D Irish, Adeline Morez Jacobs et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Evolution•2026

We used traits from the Arizona State University Dental Anthropology System (ASUDAS) to investigate the Out-of-Africa II dispersal (∼70,000–50,000 BP) and biogeographic dynamics within the continent since the Late Pleistocene. Mean measure of divergence (MMD) distances from 32 recent global and five Early-Late Holocene African dental samples ( n = 3167 individuals) were compared with F ST distances from matched genetic samples ( n = 566), serving…

  • Pushing the Limits

    J Edward Schofield, Danni M Pearce et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 19

This paper presents two high-resolution pollen records dating to ∼AD 1000–1400 that reveal the impacts of Norse colonists on vegetation and landscape around a remote farmstead in the Western Settlement of Greenland. The study is centred upon a ‘centralised farm’ (ruin group V53d) in Austmannadalen, near the margin of the Greenland Ice Sheet (64°13′N, 49°49′W). The climate is low arctic and considered marginal in terms of its suitability for the t…

  • The glacial geomorphology of upper Godthåbsfjord (Nuup Kangerlua) in southwest Greenland

Open Access•Danni M Pearce, Douglas Mair et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2018

The Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) is known to have experienced widespread retreat over the last century. Information on outlet glacier dynamics, prior to this, are limited due to both a lack of observations and a paucity of mapped or mappable deglacial evidence which restricts our understanding of centennial to millennial timescale dynamics of the GrIS. Here we present glacial geomorphological mapping, for upper Godthåbsfjord, covering 5800 km2 at a…
