  • A high-elevation MIS 5 hydrologic record using mollusks and ostracodes from Snowmass Village, Colorado, USA

    Open Access•Saxon E Sharpe, Jordon Bright•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2014

Sediments containing terrestrial and aquatic mollusks and ostracodes from the Ziegler Reservoir fossil site (2705 m elevation) near Snowmass Village, Colorado, span ~130–87 ka (MIS 5e through 5b). The southeastern area of the site where taxa were recovered was a relatively fresh, shallow, well-vegetated wetland during MIS 5e through 5c time, approximately 2 m deep, with a total dissolved solids value of ~200–1000 mg L − 1 . The wetland was season…

  • Summary of the Snowmastodon Project Special Volume A high-elevation, multi-proxy biotic and environmental record of MIS 6–4 from the Ziegler Reservoir fossil site, Snowmass Village, Colorado, USA

    Open Access•Ian M Miller, Jeffrey S Pigati et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2014

In North America, terrestrial records of biodiversity and climate change that span Marine Oxygen Isotope Stage (MIS) 5 are rare. Where found, they provide insight into how the coupling of the ocean–atmosphere system is manifested in biotic and environmental records and how the biosphere responds to climate change. In 2010–2011, construction at Ziegler Reservoir near Snowmass Village, Colorado (USA) revealed a nearly continuous, lacustrine/wetland…

  • A 9700-year multi-proxy reconstruction of hydrologic and vegetation history from a low-elevation spring-fed meadow, east central Nevada

    Open Access•Scott Mensing, Saxon E Sharpe•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • Continental-aquatic mollusk hydrochemical occurrence patterns

    Open Access•Saxon E Sharpe, Richard M Forester•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2008

  • Constructing Seasonal Climograph Overlap Envelopes from Holocene Packrat Midden Contents, Dinosaur National Monument, Colorado

    Open Access•Saxon E Sharpe•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2002

Five Neotoma spp. (packrat) middens are analyzed from Sand Canyon Alcove, Dinosaur National Monument, Colorado. Plant remains in middens dated at approximately 9870, 9050, 8460, 3000, and 0 14 C yr B.P. are used to estimate Holocene seasonal temperature and precipitation values based on modern plant tolerances published by Thompson et al. (1999a, 1999b). Early Holocene vegetation at the alcove shows a transition from a cool/mesic to a warmer, mor…
