  • D and 3D ERT imaging for identifying karst morphologies in the archaeological sites of Gran Dolina and Galería Complex (Sierra de Atapuerca, Burgos, Spain)

  • Karstic morphologies identified with geophysics around Saulges caves (Mayenne, France)

    Open Access•Rémi Valois, Lucía Bermejo et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2010•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Geophysical measurements were carried out around Saulges caves that sought to highlight the local karstic morphologies and the impact on preservation of archaeological material within the caves. Electrical resistivity tomographies (ERTs) and apparent conductivity mapping detected a soil cover on the plateaus that ends abruptly over fractured limestone or over a bowl‐shaped structure filled with clay soil. Moreover, there is at least one zone of s…

  • Geophysical study to characterize input karst water circulation in the saulges cave (Mayenne, France)

Open Access•Rémi Valois, Roger Guérin et al.•ARTICLE•ArchéoSciences•2009•References: 1

Introduction The landscape around the Saulges caves is a limestone plateau cut by the valley of the river Erve. Some of the caves in the sides of this valley contain prehistoric art (Pigeaud, 2004; Pigeaud et al., 2006) and should therefore be protected from water trickling down the walls. This study is part of a program: “Occupations paléolithiques de la vallée de l’Erve” conducted by UMR 6566 for CNRS “CReAAH”, coordinated by Jean-Laurent Monni…

  • Three-dimensional structure of a highly heterogeneous soil horizon derived by Electrical Resistivity Tomography

    Open Access•Isabelle Cousin, A Frison et al.•ARTICLE•ArchéoSciences•2009

Introduction The soil consists in a natural filter of water transfer to the groundwater. Its structure influences water storage and transfer properties or gas diffusivity, which induce major consequences on both environment and agronomy. Knowing the soil structure is thus essential to predict the soil hydraulic functioning and the 3D characterization of the structure at the horizon scale is necessary to describe the hydraulic functioning of the s…
