  • Elemental (C/N ratios) and isotopic (δ 15 N org , δ 13 C org ) compositions of sedimentary organic matter from a high-altitude mountain lake (Meidsee, 2661 m a.s.l., Switzerland)

Open Access•Florian Thevenon, Thierry Adatte et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2012

The deposition of Late Pleistocene and Holocene sediments in the high-altitude lake Meidsee (located at an altitude of 2661 m a.s.l. in the Southwestern Alps) strikingly coincided with global ice-sheet and mountain-glacier decay in the Alpine forelands and the formation of perialpine lakes. Radiocarbon ages of bottom-core sediments point out (pre-) Holocene ice retreat below 2700 m a.s.l., at about 16, 13, 10, and 9 cal. kyr BP. The Meidsee sedim…

  • Preindustrial versus modern mineral dust transported to high-altitude Alpine glacier

    Open Access•Florian Thevenon•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • Natural and anthropogenic trace elements records from low and high altitudes Swiss lakes

    Open Access•Florian Thevenon•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • Recent methodological developments in paleorecords of combustion from different depositional environments (ocean, lake, and glacier)

    Open Access•Florian Thevenon•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • A late-Holocene charcoal record from Lake Masoko, SW Tanzania

    Open Access•Florian Thevenon, David Williamson et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2003•Cited by: 2•References: 9

Charcoal analysis from a short core in a small tropical crater lake (Lake Masoko, SW Tanzania) reveals changes in charred-particle deposition and properties, consistent with high climatic variability for the last 4200 years. This is evidenced by automated image analysis of charcoal size distributions, thermal resistant carbon (soot) and black carbon elemental analysis. Charcoal-particle transport in the lake decreases during dry spells, and incre…
