  • Late-Quaternary summer temperature changes in the northern-European tree-line region

    Open Access•Heikki Seppä, Glen M Macdonald et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2008

We present two new quantitative July mean temperature (T jul ) reconstructions from the Arctic tree-line region in the Kola Peninsula in north-western Russia. The reconstructions are based on fossil pollen records and cover the Younger Dryas stadial and the Holocene. The inferred temperatures are less reliable during the Younger Dryas because of the poorer fit between the fossil pollen samples and the modern samples in the calibration set than du…

  • Holocene vegetation history and climate change on the northern Kola Peninsula, Russia

    Open Access•Konstantin V Kremenetski, Glen M Macdonald et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2004

  • Effect of varying oceanicity on early- to mid-Holocene palaeohydrology, Kola Peninsula, Russia

    Open Access•Brent B Wolfe, Thomas W D Edwards et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2003•Cited by: 2•References: 13

The stable-isotope stratigraphy of sedimentary organic matter and algal cellulose in cores from two lakes near treeline on the Kola Peninsula indicate changes in water and nutrient balance that correlate with inferred expansion of Pinus sylvestris during the early to mid-Holocene. Trends in cellulose-inferred lakewater δ 18 O values for both lakes suggest that moist conditions after deglaciation were followed by progressive drying from about 9500…

  • Diatom-based conductivity reconstruction and palaeoclimatic interpretation of a 40-ka record from Lake Zeribar, Iran

    Open Access•Jeffrey A Snyder, Kazimierz Wasylik et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2001•Cited by: 6•References: 4

Sediment cores from Lake Zeribar in the Zagros Mounitains of western Iran provide a record of changes in the diatom flora since about 40 ka. Conductivity transfer functionis applied to diatom records from the lake indicate generally higher conductivity during the Last Glacial Maximum and Lateglacial, especially between 15.0 and 10.5 ka. This observation is consistent with previous interpretations of relatively arid conditions during this interval…
