  • Multi-proxy characterization of abruptly deposited sedimentary packages at Petaluma Marsh, Sonoma county, California

    Open Access•Michelle Goman, B Lynn Ingram et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2015

  • Late Holocene δ 13 C and pollen records of paleosalinity from tidal marshes in the San Francisco Bay estuary, California

    Open Access•Frances Malamud-Roam, B Lynn Ingram•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2004

Records of stable carbon isotopes (δ 13 C) are presented from cores collected from four San Francisco Bay marshes and used as a proxy for changes in estuary salinity. The δ 13 C value of organic marsh sediments are a reflection of the relative proportion of C 3 vs. C 4 plants occupying the surface, and can thus be used as a proxy for vegetation change on the marsh surface. The four marshes included in this study are located along a natural salini…

  • Carbon-Isotope, Diatom, and Pollen Evidence for Late Holocene Salinity Change in a Brackish Marsh in the San Francisco Estuary

    Open Access•Roger Byrne, B Lynn Ingram et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2001

Analysis of diatoms, pollen, and the carbon-isotopic composition of a sediment core from a brackish marsh in the northern part of the San Francisco Estuary has provided a paleosalinity record that covers the past 3000 yr. Changes in marsh composition and diatom frequencies are assumed to represent variations in freshwater inflow to the estuary. Three periods of relatively high salinity (low freshwater inflow) are indicated, 3000 to 2500 cal yr B.…
