Open Access•Mary Jo Aspinall, Mary Aspinall et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 10

This article explores what safety means to women experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV). • Counting woman abuse

    Diane Crocker•ARTICLE•International Journal of Social…•2010•References: 16

This paper describes how the findings of two nationally representative Canadian surveys on woman abuse were taken up by both academics and the media. It puts the surveys in the context of debates about feminist epistemology and measurement. This context does now, however, fully account for the ways in which the findings were mobilized for apparently different purposes. Using a governmentality perspective, the paper illustrates the parallels betwe…

    Open Access•Diane Crocker•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2004•Cited by: 7•References: 14

This article describes the findings of research into judicial decision making in Ontario courts in cases of intimate violence against women. Judges are condemning the violence, issuing relatively harsh sentences, and arguing that the intimate context of the violence is an aggravating factor. The analysis also reveals that judges often rely on stereotypes and traditional notions of marriage, family, and femininity. As records of decisions, the doc…
