The effects of health shocks on life insurance consumption, economic growth, and health expenditure
The impacts of life insurance asymmetrically on health expenditure and economic growth
This study examines the impacts of life insurance asymmetrically on health expenditure and economic growth. Using the dynamic panel threshold model, we find that life insurance growth has a regime switch factor that may change the relationship between health expenditure growth and economic growth. Our results show that the asymmetrical information of life insurance growth affects the causal relationship between health expenditure growth and econo…
Dynamic relationships among tourist arrivals, crime rate, and macroeconomic variables in Taiwan
This article uses Granger causality test and multivariate threshold model’s causality to test the existence of dynamic nonlinear relationship among tourist arrival, the crime rate, and macroeconomic variables 2001–2016 in Taiwan. The empirical result shows that tourist arrival has a negative effect on the crime rate and there is two-way causality between the exchange rate and tourist arrival. Where the CPI or the exchange rate as the threshold va…
Dynamic heterogeneous panel analysis of the correlation between stock prices and exchange rates
This article uses quarterly data from 29 countries, during the period from the first quarter of 2000 to the second quarter of 2011, and the Pooled Mean Group (PMG) method to estimate the dynamic heterogeneous panel data model and to verify the correlation between stock prices and exchange rates. According to empirical results, the stock market and the foreign exchange market have a long-run co-integration relationship. In the short-run, the stock…
Capital Mobility and Current Account Imbalance
In this study, we utilize the growth rate of gross domestic product as the threshold variable to construct two nonlinear threshold vector autoregression models to re-examine the findings in Yan (2007 Yan, Ho-Don. 2007. Does Capital Mobility Finance or Cause a Current Account Imbalance?. Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, 47(1): 1–25. [Crossref] , [Google Scholar]:23) that “current account imbalance causes capital mobility in developed cou…
