Un type méconnu d’église funéraire
This essay is devoted to a type of medieval funerary churches which, although represented by about ten examples in Armenia and Georgia and in their sphere of influence, had not attracted the attention of specialists. These buildings are different from the better-known group of funerary churches with two levels, featuring a mausoleum topped with an oratory, crowned by a lantern in the shape of a small rotunda, well represented in Armenia in the fi…

The chapel of Yeghvard was built in the first third of the 14th century. The small local principality was one of the rare areas in Armenia where an artistic activity was able to continue during the tough period of Mongol domination. The three-storeyed building comprises a chapel-mausoleum, an oratory, and a bell-tower in the shape of a small rotunda, a structure of Antique origin, popular at that period in Armenia. The Yeghvard chapel distinguish…

The report is introduced by a brief history of the study of Yereruyk, and a short presentation of its place in Armenian architecture. Then follow synthetic observation…
