EHealth to Improve Psychological Functioning and Self-Management of People With Chronic Kidney Disease
OBJECTIVE: Psychological distress is common among patients with chronic kidney disease and can interfere with disease self-management. We assessed the effectiveness of the personalized E-GOAL electronic health care pathway with screening and cognitive-behavioral therapy including self-management support, aimed to treat psychological distress and facilitate self-management among people with chronic kidney disease not on dialysis ( N = 121). METHOD…
The Personalized Priority and Progress Questionnaire (PPPQ)
The PPPQ proved to be a feasible and valid instrument. The PPPQ can be adapted to match diverse populations and could be a useful tool both in clinical practice (e.g., to identify priorities and tailor treatment) and clinical trials (e.g., to evaluate the effectiveness of personalized interventions)
Detecting and Treating Psychosocial and Lifestyle-Related Difficulties in Chronic Disease
Many patients with lifestyle-related chronic diseases find it difficult to adhere to a healthy and active lifestyle, often due to psychosocial difficulties. The aim of the current study was to develop an eHealth care pathway aimed at detecting and treating psychosocial and lifestyle-related difficulties that fits the needs and preferences of individual patients across various lifestyle-related chronic diseases. Each intervention component was dev…
Illness Perceptions in Patients on Predialysis Care
OBJECTIVES: Illness perceptions in patients with end-stage renal disease are associated with nonadherence and increased mortality. However, no data are available regarding the relationship between illness perceptions and accelerated disease progression in predialysis patients. METHODS: A total of 416 incident predialysis patients participating in a prospective cohort (PREPARE-2, Predialysis Patient Record-2) completed the Revised Illness Percepti…
Response and participation of underserved populations after a three-step invitation strategy for a cardiometabolic health check
Underserved populations can be reached by a low-cost culturally adapted postal approach with a reminder and follow-up telephone calls. The added value of the more expensive face-to-face invitation was negligible. PC participation rates were acceptable. Efforts should be particularly targeted at practices in the most deprived areas
Short-Term Versus Long-Term Effects of Depressive Symptoms on Mortality in Patients on Dialysis
In Brief Objective Depressive symptoms seem to pose a risk factor for mortality among patients on dialysis. It is currently unknown whether the association is only short-lived and whether associations over time depend on specific causes of mortality. Methods In a prospective nationwide cohort study, 1528 patients with end-stage renal disease starting on dialysis completed the Mental Health Inventory. Patients were observed up to 5 years or until …
